This map dates from 1943 and is part of a set of military escape maps held in the Bodleian Library. The maps were printed on silk, so they could be concealed easily on the body, would still be serviceable when wet and could help pilots landing behind enemy lines to find a way to safety. Maps like this were carried by British and other Allied air crew. (F) C1 (597)
