In collaboration with Annie Sloan, this original artwork has been created exclusively for Oxfordshire ArtWeeks, inspired by the Bodleian's medieval bestiary collection.
Horses were considered intelligent, high-spirited, and loyal. Used for riding and in battle they feature frequently within the Bestiaries, with many battle scenes depicting horses fighting alongside their riders. Using these familiar beasts to illustrate fables additionally provided practical tips on horse husbandry and care. Annie’s Blue Horse is a noble horse, painted in blue and white to reflect this characteristic.
