This richly coloured illustration for The Hobbit shows the dragon Smaug lying on his bed of treasure eyeing the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins who is wisely wearing his ring of invisibility. The Arkenstone, the most precious jewel of the Dwarves, gleams at the top of the mound.
