I Wishful Thinking: A Portrait of Possibility
Making its debut at the Bodleian Libraries during the Intrepid Women exhibition, this intricate portrait by Kristjana S Williams reflects on the quiet resilience of women across generations.
Inspired by Kristjana’s Icelandic roots a culture known for strong female voices and a spirit of equality the piece brings attention to experiences often overlooked: women navigating the world with undiagnosed ADHD or autism; those seeking better understanding in reproductive and menopausal healthcare; and many more who balance invisible pressures in daily life.
Within the detailed layers of the portrait are subtle references to these realities, alongside a wider celebration of resilience, autonomy, and growth. It suggests a future where care, visibility, and understanding are not exceptions, but expectations. In this work, the invisible is quietly brought into the light offering a moment of wishful thinking about what more inclusive futures could look like.
