In collaboration with Annie Sloan, this original artwork has been created exclusively for Oxfordshire ArtWeeks, inspired by the Bodleian's medieval bestiary collection.
The goat is a mystical creature with many powers: the horns were believed to be a remedy against venom, infection and wounds, the gall would cure dimness of the eyes, whilst warm goat urine could cure earache and roast goat liver would aid leprosy. As might be imagined of an animal imbued with so many powerful healing gifts, the goat frequently represented God or Jesus in the Bestiaries. Annie's bright ultramarine Blue Goat is symbolic of the Divine.
